The Yobe State Government has expressed its commitments of postering unity and peace through sports activities.

His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, stated this while receiving the torch of Unity from the delegation from the National Sports Commission.

The 22 National Sports Festival, was flagged off by the President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, to symbolise the commencement of the upcoming National Sports Festival scheduled to take place from 16 -to-30 May  2025 in Ogun State. 

Represented by his Deputy Hon Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) Governor Buni, reaffirmed the state government's commitments to creating a conducive environment and welfare for sport development in the state.
He noted sport provides a common platform where individuals from different social,  economic and ethnic backgrounds can interact and build the nation.

He said sport can play a vital role in fostering social cohesion and peace especially in areas affected by insurgency by providing opportunity for interaction and engagement.

He added that the sport can help to rebuild trust, reduce tension and address the psychological effects of conflict.
Speaking Earlier, the Leader of the delegation Mr. Mbora Ikana, commended the efforts of the Yobe State government for providing a conducive environment to Sport activities to drive.

While presenting the torch of Unity to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Ikana, thanks the state government for the reception.

In his remark, the Commissioner Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Hon. Barma Shattima, said Yobe has successfully hosted the Northeast Elimination Series Competition.
According to him, six North East states have participated in the competition in which the state excelled in the competitions.

He further said Yobe's team will now represent the Northeast zone in Abeokuta in the multiple sporting disciplines.

"We are confident of achieving outstanding results God willing" Said the Commissioner. 

The Commissioner also  acknowledged the government’s efforts in advancing the National Sports Development.
"These include mentoring athletes, providing critical support, and delivering much-needed infrastructure to enable athletes to compete in a conducive environment" Shattima added.
