The Association of Radiographers in Nigeria (ARN), organized a one day seminar in Yobe to celebrate the annual 'World Radiography Day' which is fixed November 8th, every year. The event was held on Friday at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital.

The event showcased the crucial role of radiography in healthcare, focusing on disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Speaking on the significance of the occasion, Isyaku Mu’azu, Head of the Radiology Department at the hospital, explained that World Radiography Day, celebrated every November 8, honours the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895. “Radiography is a cornerstone of modern medicine, providing critical support in disease detection and clinical decision-making,” he said. “Our work ensures patients receive accurate diagnoses and effective treatments.”

In a move to mark the day meaningfully, radiographers visited secondary schools in Potiskum Local Government to offer career guidance and conducted free scanning tests, emphasizing the profession’s importance and community service. Mu’azu highlighted the challenges faced by radiographers, including a lack of essential equipment like CT scans and MRI machines, forcing patients to travel long distances for advanced diagnostic tests.

"We appeal to the Yobe State government to invest in modern diagnostic tools to improve patient care and service delivery,” he urged. Echoing similar sentiments, Rad Shatane Ibrahim Namba, Chief Radiologist at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, stressed that radiography is vital for accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans. “Hospitals require more radiographers to improve healthcare outcomes,” Namba added.

The event featured a comprehensive presentation by Mohammed Laji from Neptune Prime, who discussed key concepts and recent advancements in radiography, enhancing the participants’ knowledge. Appreciating the radiology team’s dedication, Potiskum Specialist Hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Ayuba Zakar, commended their professionalism and the vital role they play in patient care. The commemoration underscored the critical need for enhanced diagnostic equipment to strengthen healthcare delivery in Yobe State.
